Does Germany still have a royal family?

Yes, Germany still has a royal family. The German Empire consisted of Kingdoms, Grand Duchies, Duchies, and Principalities. All had royal families whose linage could be traced back to the Holy Roman Empire.

From 1871 through 1918, the German Empire had a monarch. Modern-day Germany does not have a monarchy but there are members of various royal houses living in Germany today.

Where is the royal family of Germany now?

The House of Hohenzollern is no longer the reigning royal family of Germany, having been displaced by the current dynasty in 1952. However, both lines – formerly-royal Prussian and formerly-princely Swabian – still possess some royal privileges.

The ancestral seat is Hohenzollern Castle, situated in the Zollernalbkreis district of Baden-Württemberg.

What caused the end of the German monarchy?

The end of the German monarchy came about as a result of several different factors. The first was the Revolution in Wilhelmshaven, which saw members of the military overthrow the government.

This was followed by the Kiel Mutiny, an uprising among naval personnel that led to further political unrest. Finally, Germany saw a Kaiser who did not have absolute power – this ultimately led to his downfall and the end of monarchy in Germany.

The Prussian monarchy was abolished on November 9, 1918. This event led to the establishment of a parliamentary democracy in Germany and all 22 constituent monarchies were abolished with it.

Many people view this event as one of the most important moments in German history.

At its peak in 1871, the Kingdom of Prussia had an estimated population of 16 million people and encompassed much of what is now northwest Germany and northeast Poland. After World War I, most of East Prussia—a significant chunk of historic German territory—was annexed by Poland as part of Stalin’s Soviet Union-imposed Polish Eastern Borderlands region; it became known as Kaliningrad Oblast until 1991 when it joined with Lithuania to form modern-day Belarus.

In 1990, after German reunification, all former territories east of the Oder-Neisse line were restored to unified Germany under a special law called Grundgesetz (Basic Law).
