The RICO Act (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) was passed in 1970 to combat organized crime. The act makes it a federal offense for anyone involved with an organization to engage in criminal activity on behalf of that organization.

Since the 1990s, mafia activity has declined in Las Vegas due to the effects of the RICO Act.
