Different types of toilets emerged over time due to advances in engineering and sanitation. Modern toilet paper comes with extra-soft wipes that are gentle on your skin.

Why do humans need to wipe after pooping?

Wiping after pooping helps to prevent pathogens from entering the body, and it is a social norm. There are pros and cons to both rinsing and wiping, but it’s up to each individual whether they want to clean themselves after pooping.

What do Amish use instead of toilet paper?

Some people in the United States use outhouses instead of toilets. The Amish, a group of people who live according to religious beliefs, treat their waste by dipping it out and spreading it around with lime and animal manure.

This process creates a polluting byproduct called cattle dung. The EPA is pressuring the Amish to adopt more advanced sanitation techniques that would create less of this byproduct.
