Others say that milk was omitted from the dish so it wouldn’t spoil quickly on long trips or in hot climates. There is a popular myth that hamburger helper can be made without milk, but this isn’t true. Instead, dairy substitutes like evaporated milk, cream, cream cheese and yogurt are better options.

However, other dairy products like buttermilk are better because they have more of the nutrients children need for healthy development. Be sure to check the labels on your substitute ingredients to see which ones work best for you since some brands contain different ingredients than others.

Milk is still the best option for providing kids with important nutrients like calcium and vitamin D every day.
