March 21, 2009 The Ellis County Czech
Heritage Society met in a called meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the KJT Dining
Room. Present for this meeting were 40 members and it was voted that we
sponsor Michelle Barak as our candidate for Miss Texas Czech-Slovak Queen.
Michelle presented the program she had prepared for the State Competition in
Hallettsville, Texas to be held on April 18th. All present were in
agreement that we sponsor Michelle and we are all looking forward to
championing her in her upcoming events.
April 18, 2009 Nineteen members of the Ellis
County Czech Heritage Society traveled today to Hallettesville, Texas to
attend the 7th Annual Miss Texas Czech Slovak Queen Pageant hosted by the
Lavaca County Czech Heritage Society. Present to compete for the Title were
Miss Burleson County Czech Slovak Queen Lauren Elizabeth Eubanks, along with
her Little Czech Sister Caroline Grace Supak, and Miss Lavaca County Czech
Slovak Queen Jenna Renee Shimek, and her Little Czech Sister Allison Kate
Etzler, and Miss McLennan Hill Czech Slovak Queen Brianna Nicole Veselka and
her Little Czech Sister Brinley Annalise Darling, and our own Miss Ellis
County Czech Slovak Queen Michelle Jenee Barak and her Little Czech Sister
Katherine Stuckly.
When the meeting was called to order, all
present waited with much interest as Mr. Joe Janecka, President of the
McLennan Hill CHS, acted as Master of Ceremonies for the Queen Candidate's
program presentations. Honored Judges for the event were: Adrienne Harris,
Assistant Professor Russian, Baylor University, Andrea Kassik, 1999 Miss
Czech Slovak USA, formerly Oklahoma, and Robert Trampota, President, Bexar
CHS. After all the representative queens presented their programs, the
judges announced that the Ellis County Czech Slovak Queen, Michelle Barak
would bear the Title and Crown of Miss Texas Czech Slovak Queen and would
now be traveling to Wilbur, Nebraska, along with her Little Sister Katherine
Stuckly, in August to compete for the title of Miss U.S. Czech Slovak
Queen. Proud parents of Michelle are Alan and Marita Barak of Ennis,
Texas. Come August there will be a good representation of our Ellis County
Czech Heritage Society members journeying to Nebraska to support our own
Miss Texas Queen.
April 26, 2009 Called meeting of the Ellis
County Czech Heritage Society at 6:30 p.m. at the Highview Marina, Bardwell
Lake. We are asking all members to please try to attend this meeting as it
will be decided whether to host a float and antique car in the 43rd Annual
National Polka Festival this year on May 23rd Downtown Parade...6:30 pm.

May 22 - 24, 2009 43rd
Annual National Polka Festival, Ennis Texas.
If you are looking for a fun place to take your
entire family, this is the place. Ennis Texas, located 30 miles south of
Dallas off Interstate Highway 45, Exit 251 B offers everyone a great
time. Festivities begin a 7:00 p.m. on Friday the 22nd at the Knights
of Columbus Hall Dance, with music by Jak Se Do and the selection of the
Festival King and Queen to reign over the weekend. Saturday morning at
10:00 am the downtown festivities will begin with our Polka Parade always
made up of over 100 entries to include floats, antique cars, the Shriners
annual participation with their celebrities, public officials, motorcycles,
clowns and more. Many floats will feature the Czech bands playing for the
day and again on Sunday at the three fraternal halls in Ennis...the K.J.T.
Hall on Paris Street, the Sokol Hall on St. Hwy. 34 and the Knights of
Columbus Hall off Interstate Hwy 45. Also, there will be dancing downtown
both days and Arts and Crafts Booths available for your selection all over
the downtown area. Families are encouraged to bring the children as a large
area of downtown will be reserved for them with rides and free entertainment
for all. On Sunday beginning at 7:30 pm. the Sokol Hall will be the
featured hall and for everyone's entertainment the "BRAVE COMBO" will be
doing their thing until 11:00 p.m.
Free Shuttle Buses will again be carrying
passengers from their Park and Ride location at the Intersection of Knox
Street and Dallas Street Downtown to all three Hall locations. Please
plan on attending two days of fun for all at the 43rd Annual Polka Festival
in Ennis Texas.
